Questions about individual counseling

What people often ask about cost, fit, privacy, virtual sessions, and how therapy actually begins.

What is individual counseling?

Individual counseling is one-on-one therapy with a licensed professional counselor. Sessions give you a private, consistent space to work through concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, perfectionism, and major life changes. At Being Wellness, we work with both adults and adolescents, and your counselor tailors the approach to you, drawing from evidence-based methods like CBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy. Sessions are available in person at our Knox Street office in Dallas or virtually.

Is individual counseling right for me?

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. If something has weighed on you for weeks or months, if stress is spilling into your sleep, work, or relationships, or if you keep circling the same problem without progress, counseling is likely a good fit. Many clients start during a difficult stretch like a breakup, a loss, or burnout, then stay because the work helps beyond it. A free 15-minute consultation is the easiest way to find out.

What are the benefits of individual counseling?

Individual counseling gives you a private, consistent space to work through concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship stress, or a major life transition with a licensed professional counselor. At Being Wellness Therapy, individual therapy is tailored to what you are carrying and how you process best, whether that means building coping tools, understanding patterns, healing from the past, or finding steadier ways to move through daily life. Sessions are available in person at our Dallas office near Knox-Henderson and the Katy Trail, or virtually anywhere in Texas.

How much does it cost?

Counseling is billed per 50-minute session and ranges from $135 to $175 depending on the counselor you work with. Sliding scale spots are available based on income, though they're limited. Life and career coaching are billed as monthly packages, from $175 to $400 depending on how many sessions you want. You can see every rate on our pricing page, and your free consultation is a good time to ask about cost.

Do you take my insurance?

Yes, some of our counselors accept Aetna for individual counseling. This currently includes Kristin Smart, Travis Kern, and Raven Lucas. For all other services, Being Wellness Therapy is private pay and out-of-network. We can provide superbills if you'd like to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Aetna coverage applies to individual counseling only; couples counseling and coaching are private-pay.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Counseling sessions are 50 minutes. There's no set schedule for how often you'll meet, that's something you and your counselor decide together after your consultation, based on what you're working on, your goals, and your budget. You can always adjust the pace as you go.

Can I do this virtually, or do I have to come in?

Both options are available. You can meet in person at our office on Knox Street in Dallas or by secure video from anywhere in Texas. Many clients mix the two, coming in some weeks and meeting virtually when travel, weather, or a busy schedule makes it easier. Your counselor can help you decide what works best.

How is counseling different from coaching?

Counseling is licensed mental health treatment. It's the right fit for working through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and similar concerns, and it can explore how the past shapes the present. Coaching is shorter, future-focused support for everyday goals and decisions, like career moves or building better habits. At Being Wellness both are provided by licensed counselors, so if you're not sure which you need, we'll help you decide during your consultation.

How do I get started?

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. It's a no-pressure call to talk through what's going on, answer your questions, and make sure you're matched with the right counselor. You can request one through our booking page or by reaching out directly, and we'll help you find a time that works.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in session is confidential and protected by law. There are a few narrow exceptions every therapist is required to follow, such as a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. Your counselor will walk you through these limits at your first session so you know exactly how confidentiality works.

Not sure where to start?

That's exactly what the 15 minutes are for. No pressure, no paperwork. Just a conversation.
