Understanding relationship struggles

Relationship struggles rarely come from one bad moment. They build through patterns: how we argue, how we attach, and what we learned about closeness long before this relationship started.

Often it looks like the same fight wearing different clothes.

Signs & Symptoms of Relationships

  • Conflicts that repeat no matter the topic
  • Feeling unheard, or like you are walking on eggshells
  • Trust that has thinned or broken
  • More distance than closeness lately
  • Anxiety about where you stand with people
  • Choosing the same kind of partner and getting the same result

How we help with relationships

We help you see the pattern underneath the conflict: what each person is actually asking for, and where the loop keeps catching. From there we build new ways of communicating, repairing, and connecting that hold up under real life.

Approaches we may draw on:

Patterns can change. With the right support, relationships can become a place you rest, not a place you brace.

Where to start

If you're working on this together, couples counseling is the place to start. If you're untangling your own patterns first, individual counseling works too. You don't need a partner in the room.

Questions, answered

A few of the things people ask before getting started. Anything else? Bring it to your free consultation.

How much does therapy cost?

Sessions are private pay, and current rates are listed on our pricing page. Every counselor on our team also keeps a limited number of sliding-scale spots for clients with financial constraints. Your free consultation is a good time to ask about cost and fit.

Do you take my insurance?

Yes, some of our counselors accept Aetna for individual counseling. This currently includes Kristin Smart, Travis Kern, and Raven Lucas. For all other services, Being Wellness Therapy is private pay and out-of-network. We can provide superbills if you'd like to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Aetna coverage applies to individual counseling only; couples counseling and coaching are private-pay.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. Our team is made up of Licensed Professional Counselors, and counselors do not prescribe medication. If medication could be part of your care, we can coordinate with your physician or psychiatrist, or help you find one.

How long until I start feeling better?

It varies, and anyone who promises a timeline is guessing. Many people notice small shifts within the first several sessions, and your counselor will check in regularly so you always know how things are progressing.

How do I get started?

Book a free 15-minute consult. We will talk through what is going on, answer your questions, and match you with the counselor and format that fit. No paperwork, no obligation.

Will the counselor take sides?

No. The counselor is on the side of the relationship. Both of you will be heard, and both sets of patterns will be looked at honestly.

What if my partner will not come?

You can start alone. Working on your side of the pattern often shifts the whole dynamic, and partners sometimes join later once therapy stops feeling like an ambush.

Do we need to be in a relationship crisis to start counseling?

No. In fact, couples who invest in relationship counseling early usually need less time in therapy. Think of couples therapy as proactive relationship maintenance and communication tuning instead of a desperate last resort.
